COMMISSIONER OF ATHLETICS EMPHASIZES GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, FAIRPLAY, RESPECT IN LETTER TO NCS MEMBER SCHOOLS
In a letter sent to NCS member schools February 5, 2014 Gil Lemmon, Commissioner of Athletics, asked schools to re-focus their efforts to promote an athletic competition environment that emphasizes good sportsmanship on the part of all student-athletes, coaches and spectators. High school athletic events are educational activities and there is no room for taunting, foul language, disreputable and unsportsmanlike behavior, or any activities that do not show respect for officials and display the proper attitudes of hard but fair play, winning humbly and losing gracefully by all individuals involved in the conduct of our contests. All schools are asked to vigorously pursue opportunities to share this message with their respective communities. Click here to see the entire letter, including two sportsmanship handouts.
